New Delhi: The discovery of a young woman’s body in a canal in the Chhawla area of Delhi has sparked concern. The Delhi Police’s Dwarka district team has arrested two suspects, identified as Asif Khan and Obaid, in connection with the brutal murder.
The victim has been identified as Komal, a resident of Sundar Nagri in the Seemapuri area. According to the investigation, Komal had been missing since March 12. The same day, she was allegedly murdered by Asif, a taxi driver known to her.
The police revealed that on March 12, Asif picked up Komal in his car from the Seemapuri area. A dispute arose between them, which led to Asif strangling Komal inside the vehicle. After committing the murder, he, along with his accomplice Obaid, disposed of the body by dumping it in the Chhawla canal, tying it with stones to prevent it from surfacing.
For five days, the body remained submerged. However, on March 17, due to bloating, the corpse floated to the surface, alerting locals who informed the police. The Dwarka district police immediately launched an investigation and registered a murder case at the Chhawla police station. A separate case of kidnapping had already been filed at the Seemapuri police station when Komal was first reported missing.
Following the investigation, the Dwarka district police team arrested Asif and Obaid. They also seized the car used in the crime. Authorities are now probing whether any other individuals were involved in the murder.
While speaking on the case, DCP Dwarka Ankit Singh stated, “A murder case has been registered in this matter. We have arrested two people, identified as Asif Khan and Obaid. Komal was strangulated inside the car, and her body was later dumped in the canal.”
The gruesome crime has sent shockwaves through the community, raising concerns over women’s safety in the city.
DCP Dwarka Anki Singh has assured a thorough investigation to ensure justice for the victim.
