IMD issues red alert for fog in Delhi, 11 trains delayed, several cancelled, flight ops disrupted

In the past few days, the national capital has been witnessing dense fog, especially in the early morning hours, disrupting the air and rail traffic in the city

New Delhi: Flight operations continued to be impacted by dense fog at the Delhi airport for the fourth consecutive day on Friday, with some flights facing delays. The national capital was enveloped by a thick blanket of fog this morning. As per airport sources, no diversions have been reported at Indira Gandhi International Airport till 8 am.

In the past few days, the national capital has been witnessing dense fog, especially in the early morning hours, disrupting the air and rail traffic in the city. The dense fog led to lower visibility in several areas. 

Trains delayed due to fog

The low visibility also affected the train operations on Friday, will many trains scheduled to arrive at railway stations in Delhi, were cancelled and many are running late by hours. According to Northern Railways, at least 11 Delhi bound trains have been delayed. The list of trains include Mumbai CSMT-Amritsar Express, Farakka Express, Himachal Express, Brahmaputra Mail, MCTM Udhampur-Delhi Sarai Rohilla AC SF Express, Lucknow Mail, Danapur-Anand Vihar Terminal Jan Sadharan Express, Raxaul-Anand Vihar Terminal Sadbhavana Express, Jammu Mail, Padmavat Express and Kashi Vishwanath Express.

A passenger at New Delhi Railway Station said that the eight trains that were supposed to arrive in Delhi last night have not yet arrived. He said, "Several trains are getting delayed. 8 trains that were supposed to reach last night have not yet arrived. The trains that were supposed to reach this morning are running late by almost 3-4 hours and there is no confirmation when these trains will arrive..."

Red alert in Delhi for fog

The India Meteorological Department on Friday issued a red alert for dense fog in the national capital. A red alert has also been issued for dense fog in Punjab and Haryana apart from Delhi for today while an orange alert has been issued in these states for tomorrow.
