Jaipur: A 70-year-old man and his wife allegedly died by suicide by jumping into a water tank at their home in Nagaur, Rajasthan , police reported on Thursday. A suicide note, found pasted on the walls throughout their house, accused the couple's sons, daughters-in-law, and other relatives of harassment over property disputes.

The bodies of the couple, identified as Hazariram Bishnoi, 70, and his wife Chawali Devi, 68, were discovered in a water tank at their home in Nagaur's Karni Colony, where the two lived.

Concerned neighbors, who hadn't seen the couple for two days, informed their son, who then contacted the local police. Upon arrival, officers found the tank's lid open and the bodies floating inside.

The suicide note named the couple's sons, Rajendra and Sunil, their wives Roshni and Anita, and their daughters Manju and Sunita, along with other relatives, accusing them of pressuring the couple over property.

According to the note, their children had already fraudulently taken possession of three plots of land and a car by deceiving and quarreling with the couple.

The note further stated that after acquiring the property, the children refused to provide the couple with food and regularly abused them over the phone. The sucide note specifically mentioned a phone call from Sunil, who allegedly told the elderly couple, "Take a bowl and beg for food. I will not feed you. If you tell anyone, I will kill you."

Manish Dev, Station House Officer of Kotwali police station, said the bodies were retrieved from the tank and sent for post-mortem examinations. "The autopsy for Vishnoi has been completed, and that of his wife will be done on Friday morning," he said, as per the news agency PTI.

According to Dev, the suicide note indicated that Bishnoi was being harassed by his sons and other relatives.

Narayan Togas, SP Nagaur said, " In the morning, their son called the Police station and said that neighbours are saying since the last 2 days, there has been no movement of his mother and father and that he feels they might have taken some extreme step."

"Police reached the spot, searched the nearby spots and found their bodies inside a tank. Post-mortem will be done... there was a suicide note written on the wall and according to that it appears to be a case of family issue", he added
