Noida: On the night of December 31, as the nation celebrated the advent of the New Year 2024, Gautam Buddha Nagar police were on high alert, deploying various units across sectors to ensure law and order in the district. However, the new year festivities turned tragic when, around 11 PM, a Mahindra pickup van collided with a patrolling police jeep in Sector 2 of Noida. The van driver, allegedly intoxicated, was speeding at the time of the collision.

The police jeep was deployed for the surveillance of Sectors 1, 2, and 3 during the night. The accident left three police officials critically injured — two sub-inspectors and one constable. The injured were rushed to Kailash Hospital for emergency medical care.

Tragically, Sub-Inspector Ramkishore succumbed to his injuries this morning, while the other two policemen remain in critical condition, according to hospital authorities. Details provided by the Gautam Buddha Nagar police outlined that Sub-Inspectors Ramkishore and Vijay Rawat, along with Constable Naresh, were conducting patrols in a Thar police jeep within Sector 2 of Noida. The collision occurred near a Mahindra car showroom, with the speeding pickup van colliding from behind. Responding swiftly to the distress call made to emergency services at 11:30 PM, the Phase 1 police team arrived at the scene. The severity of the injuries was evident, with the policemen sustaining head injuries, evident from bloodstains on the steering wheel and rear-view mirror. 

Harish Chandra, the Deputy Commissioner of Police for the Noida zone, addressed the distressing incident, stating, "A case has been filed for drunken driving and hit-and-run in this tragic event. It's a somber occurrence on New Year's Eve; the officers were diligently performing their duties when a high-speed pickup van collided with the police patrol vehicle. We're reviewing CCTV footage from the area and gathering statements from the eyewitnesses."

He further elaborated, "The footage from the CCTV outside the Mahindra showroom clearly depicts the reckless and high-speed driving of the pickup van driver, who also disregarded a red light. Our investigation has commenced. The culprit will be behind the bar soon. Swift action will ensure the individual responsible faces legal consequences."
