SRINAGAR: In a significant development, the residents of Kundiyan and Patroo villages in the Kupwara district have now received electricity for the the first time in 75-years. Under the Samridh Seema Yojana, two 250 KV substations have finally connected the remote communities along the LOC to the power grid. The electrification project was completed by the KPDCL Electric Division Kupwara in a record time of just two months, leaving the villagers ecstatic after  a decades-long wait.

Expressing gratitude to the LG Manoj Sinha, Mohammad Syed Khoja, chairperson for BDC Keran, said that this development, moving from an old diesel generator set to reliable electricity, will allow children to finally study under electric lights. "We used to receive 2 to 3 hours of low voltage power through a decade old Diesel Generator Set (DG Set) which could hardly light up a bulb. We were using candles to lighten our homes. Now our children will study under electric lights and perform well.”
