The government will soon launch a cooperative taxi service allowing registration of two wheelers, taxis, rickshaws and four wheelers, where drivers will receive the entire profit directly, Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced on Wednesday in the Parliament.
Asserting that Prime Minister Modi's 'Sahkar se Samriddhi' vision is not just a slogan but a reality, Shah shared how the Ministry of Cooperation was working tirelessly over the past three and a half years to implement it to directly benefit the drivers. This comes in contrast to the currently available private services by Ola, Uber, Rapido etc. that charge a commission ranging from 30%-40% on each ride and the driver receives the remaining amount.
In addition to the new taxi service, a cooperative insurance company will also be launched soon. The Home Minister stated that this company is expected to become the largest private-sector insurance provider in a short period, further strengthening the cooperative ecosystem.
The Union Minister of Cooperation also gave an outline about how since 2014, the central government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power and the 10-year period of the Modi government will be written in golden letters for the welfare of the poor of the country. Houses were built for the poor, toilets were built, drinking water was provided to the poor, free ration of 5 kg free food grains for the poor, gas connections for the poor, free medical treatment up to Rs 5 lakh, and electricity for all in the country has been accomplished - Shah listed government's achievements. He further informed that in the past 10 years, 25 crore people of the country have been brought above poverty line. “What was essential for living for the poor people of the country, who used to spend their lifetime for it, were provided to them by Prime Minister Modi in the past 10 years. Now the question before these crores of people is how can they grow further, how to start a business and contribute to the development of the country with no capital,” Amit Shah said. “The only way to connect a person without capital with entrepreneurship is Cooperation. Through Cooperation crores of people with small capital are coming together to start their businesses and are living with dignity by generating self-employment,” he added.
