In an exclusive interview with Republic Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami, RSS idealogue and veteran journalist S. Gurumurthy made damning revelations on how India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and the Gandhis had tried to suppress the Hindus and the Ram Janmabhoomi movement since Independence.

According to Gurumurthy, India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru was reluctant to rake up the issue of Ram Mandir in a desperate bid to appease minorities. The Ram Janmabhoomi movement, Gurumurthy noted, was completely apolitical and was started in 1983 by Hindu bodies. It was not until 1989 when the BJP joined the fray. Gurumurthy stated that it was an accepted fact that the three mosques built on Ramlalla's land was a not of religious nature but actually a sign of conquest.

"There was an attempt to erase history. There was no Rama and Babur was a secular person. The most pervasive lies were told", said Gurumurthy.

In a shocking revelation, Gurumurthy reveealed that Nehru's tolerance towards Hindus died with Sardar Patel in 1950. Gurumurthy said that after Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel died, Nehru's tolerance towards the community also dissipated.

Gurumurthy said that the judicial system was helpless under Congress rule when it came to upholding Hindu rights. “This was the helplessness of the judicial system which had very little scope to intervene in these matters,” said Gurumurthy.

Responding to the question of the attempted vilification of Hindus in the movement, Gurumurthy critiqued Nehru's secularism, stating, “Under Nehru's secularism, Hindus had become political, religious, cultural orphans in this country. Ram Janmabhoomi acted as a corrective to the pseudo-secularists.
