IMD Issues Red Alert for Andhra Pradesh, Odisha; Heavy Rain Predicted Across Multiple States

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Andhra Pradesh and Odisha , forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall on Monday, September 9. The alert comes amid the formation of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, which has intensified into a deep depression.
An orange alert has also been placed for several states, including Madhya Pradesh , Chhattisgarh , Telangana, and West Bengal, warning of significant rainfall in these regions. In addition, 11 states are under a yellow alert as monsoon rains continue to bring widespread wet spells across India.
IMD, through a post on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), updated about the depression over the northwest and west-central Bay of Bengal moved north-northwestward.
The Post read, “The depression over northwest and adjoining wes tcentral Bay of Bengal moved slowly north-northwestwards with a speed of 7 kmph during past 6 hours, intensified into a Deep Depression and lay centered at 2330 hours IST of yesterday, the 8th of September 2024 over the same region”.
Red Alert for Andhra Pradesh
The IMD predicts heavy rainfall in several regions of Andhra Pradesh and Yaman. Both areas are under alert as wet spells to bring heavy downpours.
Wet Spells Continues to Loom over These states
Odisha is expected to experience light to moderate rain across several districts, with wet conditions forecasted to persist until September 11. Chhattisgarh is likely to witness wet conditions over the coming days, with heavy rainfall predicted on September 11.
Heavy Rainfall Expected in Bengal
Light to moderate rainfall is likely at most places, with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall on September 9 and 10. Isolated heavy rainfall is also expected on September 12.IMD forecasts heavy rainfall for Jharkhand over the next three days.
Maharashtra Rains to Continue
Light to heavy rainfall is expected to continue across the state until September 10.
Delhi Weather Update
The capital is expected to experience a generally cloudy sky with light rain and thunderstorms throughout the day. Wet spells are likely to persist until September 14, with temperatures ranging between 25°C and 32°C on Monday.
