The Gurugram Police is looking for the husband of a 23-year-old woman whose body was found in her house in the DLF Phase III area in a pool of blood with her two-year-old baby sitting near her crying, an officer said on Monday.

Police suspect that the woman was killed with a sharp-edged weapon. Her husband, who is suspected to have killed her, is absconding.

Rajasthan's capital Jaipur recorded a minimum temperature of 7.6 degrees Celsius on Monday, the first day of the New Year, while Phalodi and Sikar recorded the lowest temperature in the state at 5.6 and 6 degrees Celsius, the Meteorological department said.

According to the MeT, Jaisalmer recorded 6.2 degree Celsius, followed by Bikaner, which recorded 6.4 degrees, and Sirohi and Sangria, which logged 7.7 degrees.

A car plunged into a gorge in Rampur area of Shimla district on Monday, leaving three people dead and another injured, officials said.

The accident took place near Khanotu village when the driver lost control over the vehicle.

Locals alerted the police which rushed to the spot and rescued the injured.

Over 25,000 fair price shop dealers from Jharkhand on Monday joined the nation-wide indefinite 'Ration Bandh' call given by All India Fair Price Shop Dealers’ Federation (AIFPSDF).

The strike might impact over 65 lakh beneficiaries covered under national and state food security schemes in Jharkhand, if it goes long, an office bearer of the dealer association said.

General secretary of Jharkhand unit of Fair Price Shop Dealers Association (FPSDA) Sanjay Kundu told PTI that the 'Ration Bandh' call has been given in protest against the Central Government’s failure to ensure a minimum monthly income guarantee for the dealers and some other issues.

Kashmir ushered in the New Year on a dry note even as the cold wave intensified in the valley with the minimum temperature plunging two to three degrees further below the freezing point, officials said on Monday.

There has been no snowfall in most plain area of Kashmir while upper reaches of the valley have also received lesser than usual amount of snow by the end of December.

The open skies have resulted in the minimum temperature sliding further in most parts, including Srinagar, the officials said.

The minimum temperature dropped in the summer capital of Srinagar to minus 5.2 degrees Celsius from the previous night's minus 3.4 degrees Celsius, they said.

Two alleged robbers were arrested in a village in Amethi after a gunfight in which both were shot in the leg, and inflicted a bullet wound to a sub-inspector in his hand, police said on Monday.

The two men were wanted in connection with a Rs 4 lakh-robbery that took place on December 30 near Tikri in the Amethi district, Additional Superintendent of Police Harendra Kumar said.

On Sunday night, police got a tip-off that the two robbers were seen near Ghorha village and a team was sent to nab them.

Finding themselves surrounded by police, the alleged criminals opened fire at the police and wounded Sub-Inspector Shiv Baksh Singh in hand, Kumar said. Police returned fire and shot the two in their legs and nabbed them.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Monday, January 1, successfully launched the X-ray Polarimeter Satellite (XPoSat), using the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle-C58 (PSLV). The launch occurred at 9:10 am from the first launch pad in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh with the intent to place the satellite into an Eastward low inclination orbit.

Welcoming 2024 with a bang, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is all set to launch the X-ray Polarimeter Satellite (XPoSat) today, January 01, 2024, using the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle(PSLV). The launch is scheduled for 9:10 am from the first launch pad, SDSC-SHAR, Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh.

Space enthusiasts can watch the launch launch live on ISRO's official website or its official YouTube channel.

A layer of fog enveloped the national capital on Monday morning, disrupting the train operations in the city. As many as 21 trains scheduled to arrive at Delhi railway stations are running late due to fog, the Indian Railways said on Monday. The Railways have issued a list of trains that are delayed.

During the New Year celebrations, the MP police apprehended 185 drivers found to be under the influence of alcohol. This move came after the authorities mobilised and addressed disturbances caused by individuals who had been drinking and driving in various locations, according to reports disclosed on January 1.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for fog in the national capital on New Year. According to a forecast by IMD, there will dense fog in the capital city from Januray 1-January 3 2024. There will be normal fog on 4 and 5 January 2024. The minimum temperature will be between 8 and 9 degree Celsius while the maximum will settle around 16 to 21 degree Celsius between 1-5 January 2024. A layer of fog (encircled patch) engulfed Punjab, North Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, northwest Madhya Pradesh, south Uttarkhand, Sub Himalayan West Bengal January 1, 2024, the IMD said.

A fire broke out in a three-storey building in the Dwarka Mor area in Delhi in the early hours of Monday. After receiving the information, the fire department pressed 10 fire tenders into the service.

The fire incident was reported at around 12.20 am, reported news agency ANI quoting Janakpuri Fire Station Officer Amit Kumar as saying. However, there were no reports of any casualties. The fire has been doused. It took the firemen an hour to bring the fire under control.
