Agra: Nikita Sharma, the wife of Manav Sharma, a 30-year-old TCS recruitment manager who ended his life in Agra by hanging himself, has rejected all accusations of harassment and abuse labelled against her. Instead, she has alleged that her husband struggled with alcohol addiction and had self-harmed several times before taking his own life. Nikita has come forward with her side of the story in a video post on social media, alleging that her husband was a victim of his own demons, struggling with alcoholism and a penchant for violence.
According to Nikita, Manav would often beat her after drinking, and had even attempted to hang himself on multiple occasions. She claimed to have saved him each time, but the abuse continued. Nikita also alleged that she had complained about the abuse to her in-laws, but they had dismissed her concerns, telling her to resolve the issues with her husband.
Nikita's statement comes after a video surfaced of Manav crying and accusing her of harassment, which he claimed drove him to take his own life. However, Nikita has denied these allegations, stating that the video was a desperate attempt by her husband to shift the blame. In a video statement released on social media, Nikita said, "My husband has just passed away. I have seen his video, where he is accusing me of harassment. But those allegations are completely false. That was my past, before our marriage. My husband knew about it, and that's why he started drinking heavily."

Had Attempted Suicide Multiple Times, Says Nikita
“He used to drink excessively and had attempted suicide multiple times. I saved him many times. He also assaulted me after drinking. I had informed my in-laws several times, but they ignored my pleas, saying that it was a matter between a husband and a wife and they cannot do much in it,” Manav's wife said.
"On that day, I reached out to my in-laws and Manav's parents that he may take the extreme step. His sister was also informed about it by me. People also need to listen to my side of the story," Nikita added.

Nikita's account of events is entirely different with the allegations made by Manav and his family. Manav's father, Narendra Sharma, a retired Air Force officer, reported that Manav married Nikita on January 30 in 2024, and that conflicts arose when Nikita allegedly threatened false accusations and expressed interest in living with her boyfriend.
On February 23, Manav and Nikita returned from Mumbai, and later, when he dropped her at her maternal home, he was reportedly threatened by her family. The next morning, Manav took his own life.

Manav Recorded Video Accusing Wife Before Suicide
Before taking his own life, Manav recorded a 6-minute and 57-second video expressing his distress over his marriage. In the emotional clip, he was seen crying and urging society to acknowledge the challenges faced by men. He repeatedly appealed for people to "think and talk about men" while apologising to his parents for his irreversible decision. Manav's video has sparked a debate about the struggles faced by men in society, with many calling for greater awareness and support.
The police are currently investigating the case, and have registered a case of abetment to suicide against Nikita. However, Nikita's statement has raised questions about the role of domestic abuse in Manav's death, and whether more could have been done to prevent the tragedy.
