Maharashtra Govt Declares Cow As 'Rajya Mata' Ahead of Assembly Polls
Citing the cultural significance of cows in the Indian tradition, the Maharashtra government on Monday issued an order and declared cow as 'Rajya Mata'.
Mumbai: Citing the cultural significance of cows in the Indian tradition, the Maharashtra government on Monday declared indigenous cows as 'Rajyamata-Gomata'. The Eknath Shinde -led government, in its order, stated that cows have been an important part of the Indian tradition and hold a spiritual, scientific and military significance since time immemorial.
This development comes ahead of the state assembly polls.
Concern over decreasing Indigenous cows
Highlighting various breeds of cows found across India, the state government also raised concerns over declining population of indigenous cows. The govt also stressed on the use of cow dung for agricultural purposes. Taking in view the religious and cultural significance along with the socio-economic factors related to the cow and its products, the government encouraged the cattle rearers to rear Indigenous cows.
Notably, in India, cows are given the status of mother and worshipped in Hinduism. Apart from this, its milk, urine and dung are considered sacred and are used in abundance across the country. While cow milk is very beneficial for the human body, its urine is claimed to cure many diseases.
