Maharashtra: Stones Pelted At Ganesh Idol Procession In Vidarbha's Akot City

Akola: Another incident of stone pelting at Ganesh idol surfaced from Maharashtra 's Vidarbha region, where a group of unknown persons pelted stones at a Ganesh idol procession in Akot city on Wednesday leading to a panic-like situation in the area. During the stone pelting incident, several people, part of the Ganesh idol procession, along with some police personnel sustained injuries. 

A senior police official stated that the injured were shifted to various hospitals for treatment in Vidarbha's Akot city. 

The incident occurred in the Nandipeth area at 4 pm, when a group of devotees were taking part in a Ganesh idol procession. The stone pelting incident prompted police to bring in reinforcement to control the situation.

Sub-Divisional Police Officer Anmol Mittal said the Maharashtra Police detained 68 persons for allegedly pelting stones and is in the process of registering a case, reported PTI.

He said injured people were admitted to the rural hospital and security was stepped up by police in sensitive areas.

"The situation is under control now," he added. However, a heavy deployment of police personnel has been ensured to deal with any untoward situation.
