Drunk Man Arrested for Threatening to Kill Delhi CM Rekha Gupta After Wife Leaves Him

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta received a death threat via a phone call to the Ghaziabad Police Control Room late Thursday night. Officials said the call came around 11 PM and was taken seriously, prompting immediate coordination between Ghaziabad and Delhi Police.

Delhi Police Acts Quickly

Soon after the threat was received, Delhi Police swung into action. Security outside CM Rekha Gupta’s residence in Northwest Delhi was increased. Her personal security was also reviewed.

Ghaziabad Police informed their Delhi counterparts, and the Special Staff team from Delhi’s Northwest District began tracking the caller.

Accused Is Law Graduate, Upset After Marital Issues

The accused was arrested within hours. Police sources said he is a law graduate who was drunk at the time of the call. He was reportedly disturbed after his wife left him and had earlier tried calling her before making the threat.

“He called UP112 and said the Delhi Chief Minister will be killed. We informed Delhi Police, who acted immediately,” said SP Kotwali Ritesh Tripathi of Ghaziabad Police.

Fake IDs Found With Him

During the arrest, Delhi Police also recovered fake identity cards from the man’s possession. His mobile phone was switched off after the call, but police used technical surveillance to trace him.

Probe Continues

While the man is now in custody, further investigation is underway to understand his motive in detail and to check whether others were involved. His background and mental health are also being examined by officials.
