Meerut: Meerut woke up to a shocking crime that has sent chills down the spine of the country. A Merchant Navy officer was murdered in cold blood by his wife and her lover in what police are calling a meticulously planned crime. The brutality of the act has drawn comparisons to the Shraddha Walkar case from Delhi in 2022, bringing back grim memories of similar horrifying murders in recent years.

Merchant Navy Officer Killed, Body Stuffed in Drum

According to the police, Saurabh Rajput, who had just returned from London after completing his duty in the Merchant Navy, was murdered by his wife, Muskan Rastogi, and her alleged lover, Mohit alias Sahil. The incident took place in Indranagar, under the jurisdiction of Brahmpuri police station.

The grisly murder was carried out with chilling precision. After killing Saurabh, the accused dismembered his body and sealed the remains inside a cement-filled drum to hide the crime. The police, upon receiving a tip-off, reached the scene and had to use a drill machine to break open the drum and recover the body. The discovery of the remains created a huge commotion, with crowds gathering outside the house in shock.

Echoes of the Shraddha Walkar Case

The Meerut murder case has once again brought to light the disturbing pattern of gruesome killings across the country. This incident brings back chilling memories of the 2022 Shraddha Walkar case in Delhi. In that case, Aaftab Poonawala murdered his live-in partner, Shraddha, by strangulation. He then dismembered her body into 35 pieces, stored them in a refrigerator, and over several days, disposed of the parts across various locations in the national capital.

Bengaluru Woman Killed, Body Chopped Into 30 Pieces

Similarly in 2024, in Bengaluru, a 29-year-old woman named Mahalakshmi was brutally murdered, her body chopped into over 30 pieces and stored in a refrigerator. The crime came to light when the victim's mother and elder sister, alerted by a foul stench emanating from the apartment, discovered the dismembered body.

‘Rarest of the Rare’ Murder Case of Hyderabad

In another horrifying incident, an ex-serviceman in Hyderabad, identified as P. Gurumurthy, allegedly murdered his wife, dismembered her body, crushed the bones into powder, and disposed of the remains by flushing them down a toilet. The police described the act as 'rarest of the rare' and of ‘barbaric nature'. The incident happened this year in January 2025.

The Bhopal Murder Case
