Mumbai Weather: IMD Issues Heavy Rain Alert Amid Lightning, Thunderstorms and Waterlogging

Mumbai: Mumbaikars were in for a surprise after the weather in the Maharashtra capital took a dramatic turn causing heavy rains, lightning and a thunderstorm that the locals termed as ‘most violent storm ever’. Amid the incessant showers and waterlogging in Mumbai, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rain alert for the whole of Maharashtra. 

Maharashtra Weather Update: IMD Issues Heavy Rain Alert

As per the latest IMD Weather Update, Central Maharashtra including Mumbai will be experiencing heavy rain for the next few days. The India Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rain alert for several states including Maharashtra, till October 17.

Mumbai Rains: 24 Hours of Rain, Lightning, Thunderstorms and Waterlogging

The incessant rains witnessed by Mumbai in the past 12 hours were termed as extremely frightening and violent by the locals. The heavy rains in the city have resulted in massive waterlogging on the streets, especially Elphinstone Road and NM Joshi Marg in Prabhadevi. 

The rains caused waterlogging which further resulted in long traffic jams and congestions on most streets. Netizens have shared scary visuals of thunderstorms and lightning in the city.

IndiGo Issues Travel Advisory

Amid the heavy showers, a travel advisory has also been issued by IndiGo for all passengers travelling to and from Mumbai. 

The advisory reads, “It's raining in Mumbai & flight schedules are impacted due to weather conditions and air traffic congestion. If you or your loved ones are travelling, you may keep a tab on the flight status https://bit.ly/3DNYJqj and allow ample travel time to the airport.”
