42-year-old woman stripped naked, paraded and tied to an electric pole in Karnataka's Belagavi

A 42-year-old woman in Karnataka was stripped nude, beaten, and paraded as her son eloped with another woman. 

The incident involving the parade of a nude tribal woman in Belagavi, Karnataka, has been denounced by BJP National President JP Nadda, who has also established a five-member fact-finding committee to visit the scene.

In a blistering attack on the Congress government in Karnataka, Jagat Prakash Nadda described the Belagavi incident involving the parade of a tribal woman in her underwear as "heinous" and a sign of the party's "irresponsible behaviour" with regard to women's safety.

Nadda condemnation came after a 42-year-old woman in Karnataka was stripped nude, beaten, and paraded while her son eloped with another woman.

In order to conduct additional research and obtain primary sources of information, Nadda has established a five-person fact-finding committee.

Prominent BJP MPs Apratita Sarangi, Sunita Duggal, Locket Chatterjee, Ranjeeta Koli, and Asha Lakra make up the committee. They will visit the scene and quickly provide the party chief with a report as soon as they can.

"BJP National President Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda has strongly condemned the heinous incident of parading naked of a tribal woman in Belgavi, Karnataka. Such heinous crimes especially against women have been happening at regular intervals ever since the congress government came to power in Karnataka. This also exposes the irresponsible behaviour of congress governments everywhere in the country in tackling such crimes," read the release from BJP.

The woman was allegedly assaulted, paraded naked and tied to an electric pole in a village in this district, after her son eloped with a girl who was to get engaged with someone else, police said on Monday.

On getting to know about the girl's act, her family members attacked his house in new Vantamuri village, damaging it.

They are then said to have dragged his mother away, paraded her naked and tied her to an electricity pole, they said.

The police, who rushed to the spot and set her free,  have arrested seven persons in connection with the incident, and are investigating the matter. Additional forces have been deployed to avoid any untoward incident.

Belagavi Police Commissioner Siddramappa said both the 24-year-old Ashok and 18-year-old Priyanka belonging to the same community and from the same village were in love.  At around 12:30 am on Monday, they left the village.

Karnataka High Court is hearing suo motu case on Belagavi incident.

A bench comprising of Chief Justice Prasanna B Varale and Justice Krishna Dixit bench said, "this is deep rooted male chauvinism.. Just because he is a male, he can do anything.”

Justice Dixit added," The person should be arrested.. We want report on Monday.. If that is not happened, we may take some serious action. This is not an ordinary case. This is extraordinary. Inspector can't take dinner or lunch until he is arrested."

He added, “this is deep rooted male chauvinism.. Just because he is a male, he can do anything.”
