Assam CM Sarma Nagarik Samitis should focus on enhancing public awareness about legal procedures, including how to file FIRs, retrieve reports.
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday said that Nagarik Samitis should focus on enhancing public awareness about legal procedures, including how to file FIRs, retrieve reports, and obtain certificates.
Addressing a conference of Nagrik Samitis, Chief Minister Sarma appreciated the entire team of Assam Police and all those who have worked hard to bring the 2022 decision on Nagarik Samiti to fruition.
Nagrik Samitis Play Important Role
Chief Minister Sarma emphasized the crucial role of Nagarik Samitis in supporting crime victims, especially children and women. He urged these committees to enhance public understanding of legal processes, including how to file FIRs, retrieve reports, and obtain certificates.
Sarma commended the Assam Police for their efforts in implementing the Nagarik Samiti initiative from 2022. He also highlighted the significant role of police forces in maintaining order and peace, noting that people typically associate police with stations and outposts.
Chief Minister Sarma announced that the state government will soon issue directives to all police stations to ensure prompt service to the public. He noted that a NoC from the police is required for festival celebrations, and any delays in issuing this NoC often lead to public dissatisfaction. Additionally, he highlighted that the Assam Police's Sewa Setu Portal has successfully facilitated 191,408 services to the community.
