Kashmir Lal Chowk New Year celebrations: People in Srinagar's Lal Chowk celebrated New Year, probably for the first time in Jammu and Kashmir's history. Locals thronged the streets to bid adieu to 2023 and welcome 2024 at the iconic 'Ghanta Ghar' in Lal Chowk. Hundreds of people were seen singing and dancing to Bollywood numbers.

Many were excited after witnessing and experiencing the New Year celebrations for the first time. Not able to contain excitement, Mohammad Yasin told news agency ANI, “I have come here to witness the celebration of the New Year. We have never seen this  kind of celebration of the New Year. We have never seen this kind of celebration before. But this time we saw this and are here to see the celebration. We have never seen this kind of celebration at Lal Chowk. I am very happy, delighted and excited."

Even the tourists were surprised to see hundreds of locals out on the streets at midnight. Taking to X, Srinagar Municipal Corporation Commissioner and CEO of Srinagar Smart City Ltd. Athar Aamir Khan said, “This is Srinagar Square, Lal Chowk right now! A city life never seen before. The celebration, the vibrancy like never before! This is probably the biggest alibi to the transformation that Srinagar city has witnessed with the implementation of Srinagar Smart City porjects! Immensely proud of my Srinagar Smart City and SMC team for making this happen! Happy New Year!”
