'No Mercy': Ajit Pawar Seeks Death Penalty in Pune Swargate Rape Case

Pune: Condemning the alleged rape of a 26-year-old woman in Pune, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Wednesday said that those guilty in the case should be awarded the death penalty.

Deputy CM said that police have launched a manhunt and the accused will be nabbed at the earliest. 

"The incident of rape of our sister at Pune’s Swargate bus stand is extremely shameful, painful, and infuriating for every member of a civilised society. The crime committed by the accused is unforgivable, and there can be no punishment except the death penalty,” Deputy CM Pawar said. 

Ajit Pawar Seeks Death Penalty  

The accused has been identified as Dattatraya Ramdas Gade (36). He also had cases of theft and chain snatching registered against him.

Ajit Pawar assured citizens that the accused will be given the harshest punishment in the case.

Exercise Caution in Public Spaces, says Maharashtra Woman Panel

Maharashtra State Women's Commission Chairperson Rupali Chakankar has urged women to exercise caution while interacting with strangers.

"I urge young girls and women to be cautious in public spaces and not trust strangers blindly. They should seek assistance from the authorities and prioritize their safety. Society has dangerous elements, and their numbers are increasing by the day. We must remain vigilant," Chakankar said.

Chakankar said that the administration has been instructed to provide counselling to the victim.
