Amritsar: In a distressing incident, an NRI who recently returned from the US was shot at his residence in Punjab's Amritsar on Saturday morning.
The incident was caught on CCTV. The video shows two armed men entering the victim's house and firing at him from a close range.
The NRI sustained severe injuries after suffering two bullet injuries and has been hospitalised for treatment.
As per media reports, the shooting is suspected to be linked to a dispute with his in-laws.
The NRI's whole family was in the house when the incident took place.
The police arrived at the scene shortly after receiving the information about the incident. The officials have taken CCTV to review the scenario and identify the attackers.
According to cops, two assailants entered the house on the pretext of asking for the registration certificate of his luxury car that was purchased this week.
Furthermore, the family told the police that no demand for ransom had been made.
Reacting to the incident, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Badal president Sukhbir Singh Badal said, "The law and order situation in Punjab has completely deteriorated. I am very saddened to see the current state of Punjab."
"This morning, in Daburji, Sri Amritsar Sahib, miscreants openly fired shots after entering the house of our NRI brother Sukhchain Singh. The mother was pleading with folded hands to save her son, and the innocent child was doing the same to save his father, but the heartless criminals did not listen. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, such incidents are happening every day under your rule. Punjabis are not even safe in their own homes. I believe you should resign on moral grounds. I pray for the recovery of Sukhchain Singh, who is severely injured and undergoing treatment," he added.
An investigation has been launched and the cops are currently searching for the two men.
