Prayagraj's Bade Hanuman Temple set for grand makeover ahead of Mahakumbh 2025
The comprehensive rejuvenation of the temple premises, an endeavour estimated to cost approximately Rs 40 crore to Rs 48 crore.
In a bid to create an indelible mark on the upcoming Mahakumbh 2025, the Yogi Adityanath government is spearheading extensive projects, including the rejuvenation of the Bade Hanuman Temple taking centre stage in Prayagraj.
Lakhs of devotees, both national and international, flock to the Bade Hanuman Temple each year, making it a pivotal religious destination within the Mahakumbh fair area.
Recognising the heightened risk of accidents due to increased crowds, the Uttar Pradesh government has unveiled plans for the comprehensive rejuvenation of the temple premises, an endeavour estimated to cost approximately Rs 40 crore to Rs 48 crore.
The rejuvenation project falls under the aegis of the Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA) and entails the expansion of temple grounds by leasing surrounding land.
To facilitate this, the Prayagraj Mela Authority is exploring all possibilities of acquiring encroached areas from the Defence Authority and Cantonment Board on a long-term lease basis, permitted under the Uttar Pradesh Prayagraj Mela Authority Allahabad Act, 2017.
Temple's comprehensive layout
The proposed layout includes multiple exits at the entrance, a spacious 30-meter open area around the 'garbhagriha' for crowd management, and a robust security system. It will also have a specially designed 9-meter queue shed that will enhance the devotees' waiting experience, while an open-air theatre-style 'garbhagriha' will accommodate more worshippers simultaneously.
In addition to the prayer hall, the rejuvenated temple premises will also feature designated areas for priests, prasad distribution, pilgrim sheds, and a storage facility.
For VIP entries and exit points, ample parking, and essential amenities such as toilets, drinking water facilities, shoe racks, signage, and benches are also in the blueprint.
Illuminating the entire premises with solar lights, the estimated cost for this ambitious rejuvenation project might take 10 months to complete.
As the grand makeover takes shape, it stands poised to become a symbol of spiritual magnificence and cultural heritage, aligning seamlessly with the essence of the Mahakumbh.
