Dausa: Amidst heavy rainfall, a portion of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway caved in on Tuesday in Rajasthan 's Dausa district. Following the incident, the portion of the expressway was covered and repair work was initiated at the site. As per reports, the project director of the expressway stated that it was due to a water leak that the road in Dausa caved in.

Several videos and photos of the portion of the expressway, where the road caved in also surfaced on social media, raising questions on the quality or work ensured during the construction of the road. A video recorded by commuters shows a deep crater in the middle of the road. Another video shows a bulldozer removing the debris.

Meanwhile, as soon as the contractor got information about the matter, he immediately barricaded the area and the pothole was repaired, the project director said.

The project director stated, "The road is getting damaged continuously due to rain, so the work of repairing it is also going on."

Stretching over 1,386 kilometres, the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is India's longest expressway. It aims to significantly reduce travel time between the two cities from the current 24 hours to just 12-13 hours.

The expressway passes through several states, including Haryana , Rajasthan , Madhya Pradesh , Gujarat , and Maharashtra .

The construction of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is about 80 per cent complete, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on July 31 this year. According to the minister, the project requires at least one more year to complete.
