The Gautam Buddha Nagar Police on Friday announced that the district administration has imposed Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNNS) across Noida, Dadri, Greater Noida, Jewar, Gaur Yamuna City and other major cities from today till March 31 ahead of Alvida Jumma, Cheti Chand festival, and Eid-al-Fitr.

What Is Section 163 and Why Is It Used?

Section 163 BNSS is a legal provision very similar to Section 144, which is enforced to prevent disturbances and maintain public peace.

It is generally imposed to curb potential unrest, especially during large gatherings, festivals, or demonstrations.

What Are the Restrictions Under Section 163?

  • Ban on Weapons: Carrying weapons such as sticks, knives, swords, guns, or any sharp objects is strictly prohibited.
  • Carrying banners, placards are also restricted.
  • Restrictions on Gatherings: Large gatherings and public processions may be restricted without prior approval.
  • Public Events: Organising public events requires official permission from the district administration.

Consequences of Violating Section 163

Violation of Section 163 can lead to legal action, including arrest and penalties as per the BNSS regulations. The Gautam Buddha Nagar Police have urged the citizens to cooperate for public safety. Residents are advised to follow the guidelines and enjoy peaceful celebrations.
