Opposition to Skip Pran Pratishtha

On the other hand, the spotlight has shifted to the reaction from the opposition INDI bloc. Their engagement with the mega event has become a headline, marked by a politicisation of the religious ceremony. While the Congress party has declined the invitation, saying "religion is a personal matter",  Rahul Gandhi has termed the event as 'Narendra Modi's function.' Let's take a look at the list of INDI leaders who, so far, have declined participation in the 'Pran Pratishtha' ceremony, citing various reasons for their decision.  List of Leaders Who Have Said No to ‘Pran Pratishtha’

Arvind Kejriwal: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has decided to skip Ram Mandir's 'Pran Pratishtha' ceremony. The Delhi CM has stated that he 'will visit Mandir later with his family'.

Mamata Banerjee: Mamata Banerjee announced a 'Sampriti Michil' or 'rally for harmony' scheduled in Kolkata on January 22, coinciding with the Ayodhya Ram temple consecration ceremony. "It is not our job to do Pran Pratistha. It is the job of the priests. Our job is to create infrastructure", said Mamata.

Lalu Prasad Yadav: RJD supremo and former Bihar CM Lalu Yadav has decided not to participate in the consecration ceremony of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. The 75-year-old veteran politician is among several opposition figures who have chosen to abstain from attending the 'Pran Pratistha' ceremony at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh.

Sharad Pawar: NCP Chief Sharad Pawar said that he will visit Ayodhya for Ram Lalla darshan after the Pran Pratishtha event and once the construction is complete.

Akhilesh Yadav: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav expressed his gratitude to Champat Rai, the general secretary of the Ayodhya Temple Trust, for extending an invitation to the consecration ceremony on January 22. However, he said that he will visit the Mandir after Jan 22.

Mallikarjun Kharge/Sonia Gandhi and top Congress leaders: Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury “respectfully" declined the invitation extended by Ram Janmabhoomi Temple Trust to attend the ‘Pran Prathista’ ceremony. In a statement, the Congress said that its senior leaders would not be attending the inauguration ceremony of the Ram temple in Ayodhya on January 22. “Lord Ram is worshipped by millions in our country" and “religion is a personal matter", read the party statement.

Uddhav Thackeray:  Uddhav Thackeray has declared that his party would conduct a 'Maha Aarti' on the banks of the Godavari River at Nashik's Shree Kalaram Temple on January 22, coinciding with the Ayodhya temple consecration ceremony.

Sitaram Yechury: CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury has turned down an invitation. “Our policy is to respect religious beliefs and the right of each individual to pursue their belief. Religion is a personal choice not to be converted into an instrument for political gain. Comrade Sitaram Yechury will not attend the ceremony despite receiving an invitation to do so,” the Communist Party of India (Marxist) said in a post on X.

Brinda Karat: “Our party will not attend the 'Pran Pratishtha' ceremony of Ram Temple in Ayodhya. We respect religious beliefs but they are connecting a religious programme with politics. This is the politicization of a religious programme. This is not right,” Brinda Karat said.

Rahul Gandhi: “The RSS and the BJP have made the January 22 function a completely political Narendra Modi function. It's a RSS-BJP function and I think that is why the Congress President said that he would not go to the function. We are open to all religions, and all practices", said the Wayanad MP.
