Singrauli: In a disturbing incident, a Class 8 student residing in a girls' hostel gave birth to a child at a community hospital on Friday afternoon. The incident reportedly occurred in the Singrauli district of Madhya Pradesh.

The minor was a resident of the hostel of a government school in Godbahara village, under the jurisdiction of the Sarai police station in Singrauli.

On Friday, the girl complained of severe stomach pain and was rushed to the hospital. Upon medical examination, it was revealed that she had been pregnant for the past nine months. Shortly after, she delivered a child. Doctors have confirmed that both the girl and the newborn are stable and receiving medical care.

According to preliminary reports, the girl was allegedly sexually assaulted nine months ago by an auto driver while traveling back home.

Following the incident, police launched an investigation and began questioning hostel staff, family members, and the victim.

The police have also registered a case against an unknown person based on the statements of the minor. The victim did not disclose the rape out of fear and social stigma; hence both her family and hostel authorities were unaware of the assault.

The case has also raised concerns about medical oversight by hostel authorities. Investigators are questioning why proper medical check-ups were not conducted, as these could have detected the pregnancy earlier.

Sources claim that medical check-ups for hostel residents had not been conducted for years, preventing authorities from identifying the minor’s condition in time.

The Sarai Police have registered a case against an unknown person, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the accused. Authorities are also investigating potential negligence on the part of the hostel administration and whether action should be taken against those responsible for student safety.
