5 Injured After Speeding SUV Crashes Into Guardrail Near Rajghat in Delhi
It is learnt that all the occupants of the vehicle were intoxicated.
New Delhi: Five people sustained serious injuries after a speeding SUV rammed into guardrail that pierced through the middle of the vehicle in Shanti Van area in the national capital, on Thursday morning.
The Hyundai Venue car had five occupants when the mishap took place near Rajghat. All the injured have been hospitalised. The condition of two among five is said to be critical. It is learnt that all the occupants inside the vehicle were intoxicated.
Prima facie, it seems that the SUV was being driven at a high speed and the driver lost control leading to the crash, police said.
According to sources, four among the five were students of Delhi University. They were returning from Gurugram after celebrating the birthday of one of the injured, said police.
Initial investigation by police has revealed that the driver attempted to change a song on his mobile phone and while doing so, he lost control over the vehicle.
“5 people including 4 students of Delhi University suffered injuries and were admitted to hospital after their car met with an accident in the Shantivan area of Delhi. They were returning from Gurugram after celebrating the birthday of one of the injured. Initial investigation has revealed that the driver attempted to change a song on his mobile phone and, in doing so, lost control of the vehicle. The car collided with the side railings, causing severe damage. Legal action is being taken,” said the Delhi Police.
The Delhi Police has started an investigation into the accident.
