Surya Namaskar from Modhera: Gujarat Welcomes New Year 2024 With Guinness World Record

Gujarat welcomed 2024 with a remarkable feat of its own: setting a Guinness World Record for most people performing Surya Namaskar simultaneously at 108 venues.

NEW DELHI: As the world rang in New Year with spectacular aerial fire crackers displays, the Indian state of Gujarat welcomed 2024 with a remarkable feat of its own: setting a Guinness World Record for the most people performing Surya Namaskar simultaneously at around 108 venues, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on ‘X’ on Monday, 1 January. 

“As we all know, the number 108 holds a special significance in our culture, PM Modi wrote, adding: ”the venues also include(d) the iconic Modhera Sun Temple, where several people joined".

Lauding the cultural practise of Yoga that has its origins in India, PM Modi further wrote: “This is indeed a true testament to our commitment to Yoga and our cultural heritage”. 

The Prime Minister also urged all the Indians to make Surya Namaskar a part of their daily routine, asserting that the benefits of practising daily yoga “are immense”.
