Tamil Nadu transport workers to launch bus strike ahead of Pongal
The transport workers' unions of Tamil Nadu have announced an indefinite strike from January 9 in the state.
Chennai: The transport workers' unions of Tamil Nadu have announced an indefinite strike from January 9 in the state which may to disruption in government bus services ahead of Pongal.
The transport unions have already placed six major demands, including better pay (15th wage revision agreement), filling of vacant bus driver and conductor posts, financial support from the state government to all eight state-run transport corporations and releasing pending dearness allowances of pensioners.
The tri-party talks between the state government, Labour Welfare Department, and transport unions were held last night, however, failed to reach any conclusion. With no compromise from any side, the transport unions announced the indefinite strike.
"They (officials) once again sought more time. We were not satisfied with their reply," A Soundararajan, CITU leader, told reporters on Wednesday after attending the meet.
