To claim Rs 1 crore in insurance, Tamil Nadu man kills friend; held

A man named Suresh in Chennai faked his own death to claim insurance money worth Rs 1 crore. However, he was caught later, know how.

Chennai: A man with his two friends has been arrested in Tamil Nadu's Chennai and the reason behind it will shock you.

Suresh Harikrishnan, a resident of Ayanavaram, along with his two friends made a plan to claim his insurance worth Rs 1 crore, by faking his death, as per media reports.

The three first faked Suresh's death and to claim the money killed a man with a similar physical resemblance, as a potential body double.

According to police, the trio discovered Dillibabu, whom Suresh had known ten years ago, who was also a resident of Ayanavaram and Suresh used to be his friend years ago.

However, on Tuesday, the trio took Dillibabu to an empty plot in Puducherry for a drinking session, where they had already set up a farm hut.

During the investigation, Suresh confessed to having strangled drunk Dillibabu, and set the hut on fire. He then escaped from the spot.

While Suresh absconded, his family also believed he was dead in the fire and conducted his last rites. However, Dillibabu's mother filed a missing complaint for her son.

Days later police were informed about a charred body found inside a burnt hut. Upon investigation, the police discovered that it was not Suresh but Dillibabu and he along with his friends killed him.

The police then traced the cellphones of Suresh and the other two and found that their phone signals were active near the burnt hut.

When they traced further some of his friends, they found Suresh to be alive. Upon questioning further, the trio confessed to the murder of Dillibabu.

For now, the culprits have been arrested and have been sent to judicial custody.
