As light snow blanketed the higher altitudes of Kashmir and parts of the Jammu region, popular tourist spots such as Gulmarg and Sonamarg saw their first snow of the season. At Gulmarg, the iconic Affarwat Peak and Sunshine Peak were covered with approximately one centimeter of snow, while the higher altitudes of Sonamarg recorded around two centimeters. In addition, areas like Sinthon Pass, Chhattergalla Pass, Paddri Pass on the Bhaderwah-Chamba Road, and Peer Ki Gali on the Mughal Road also experienced light snowfall early this morning.

The stunning snowfall is being celebrated by both residents and tourists, signaling a promising start to the winter tourist season. This early snow is expected to attract visitors eager to enjoy the winter charm of Kashmir, particularly with the season’s peak expected to arrive sooner than anticipated. Local weather officials have indicated that more snowfall could occur at higher altitudes above 4000 meters if the ongoing rain spells continue. A representative from the Meteorological Department shared, “We are closely monitoring the situation. While early snowfall is typical in these regions, persistent rainfall could result in significant snow accumulation.”
