New Delhi: As Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh's close aide Sanjay Singh swept the Wrestling Federation of India ( WFI ) elections, protesting wrestlers, including Sakshi Malik, Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat raised huge hue and cry over the results, calling them unfair and undemocratic. Reacting to the wrestlers' claim, freshly-elected Senior Vice President of WFI Devender Kadian, also close to Brij Bhushan, told Republic that the protesting wrestlers had no problem with him contesting the elections. "Yes, I was the choice of wrestlers and I contested because All three Bajrang Punia , Sakshee Malik and Vinesh Phogat wanted me to contest. I don't know why now they are stating that the elections were unfair when it all happened in presence  of more than 20000 people and no politics should now be done in this matter," Kadian told Republic.

Out of 15 posts, Brij Bhushan's men have swept the polls winning 13. Prem Chand Lochab, another Brij Bhushan loyalist, became the General Secretary of WFI.

“Before election, we spoke to both Sakshi and Bajrang. They knew the process of election. We had no idea that any such allegation would be even levelled against WFI election. The main reason their Presidential candidate Anita Sheoran lost was because of the wrestlers' politics and how it reflected in the elections as well”, said Kadian.

Kadian said that the outcome of the election was not surprising as many state bodies who were participating in the polls were not in favour of Sheoran becoming the WFI chief. "So for some reason we knew that she will lose the election and that only happened," he told Republic.

Looking forward, Kadian, said, "Now, our main focus is to plan for the upcoming Olympics and State wrestling competitions. The first round of meeting will take place in 2 days and then some new rules and regulations will be brought in and later will be implemented . Wrestling has suffered a lot but now we have to refrain from responding on it and focus only on future wrestling competitions".
