Kolkata Traffic Advisory: Tight arrangements for Kalpataru Utsav, check routes to avoid on New Year

Kolkata traffic alert states that some streets, such as Park Street, Shakespeare Sarani and Ho-Chi-Minh Sarani will only be open in one direction.

Kolkata Traffic Advisory: Kolkata Police has released a traffic advisory to help people avoid traffic jams on New Year's Eve, which is quickly approaching. Traffic on the roads leading to Maidan has been restricted from 4 p.m. on December 31 to 4:30 a.m. on January 1 and again from 4 p.m. on January 1 to midnight.

Roads To Avoid

The road intersections are Cathedral Road and Queens Way, Chowringhee Road and Shakespeare Sarani crossing, AJC Bose Road and Hospital Road crossing, AJC Bose Road and Harish Mukherjee Road crossing, Strand Road and Auckland Road crossing, Mayo Road and Dufferin Road crossing, and AJC Bose Road and Chowringhee Road crossing. 

One Way Alert

The traffic alert states that some streets, such as Park Street, Shakespeare Sarani, Ho-Chi-Minh Sarani, Middleton Street, Little Russel Street, Russel Street, and Camac Street, will only be open in one direction. There will be limited traffic movement between Royd Street and Free School Street towards Park Street.

Parking Restrictions

Park Street, Camac Street, Free School Street, Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Road, Middleton Street, Little Russel Street, Kyd Street, Russel Street, and Royed Street will all be off-limits to parking for cars. Depending on the amount of traffic on December 31 and January 1, more restrictions on driving may be put in place near the Indian Museum, Victoria Memorial, Birla Planetarium, Alipore Zoo, Paresh Nath Temple, Kali Temple at Kalighat, Thanthania Kalibari, Lindsay Street, New Market, Birla Temple on Ashutosh Chowdhury Avenue, and Millennium Park.

Traffic restrictions have been put in place due to the Kalpataru Utsav in Dakshineshwar and Cossipore. These restrictions apply to the following crossings: KK Tagore Street and Rabindra Sarani; Vivekananda Road and CR Avenue; Grey Street and BK Paul Avenue; Maniktala crossing; Rabindra Avenue and BK Paul Avenue; Gallif Street and Bidhan Sarani; Beliaghata Road and AJC Bose Road; Strand Road and KK Tagore Road; BT Road and Raja Manindra Road; BT Road and Dum Dum Road; CR Avenue and MG Road crossing; and MG Road and Rabindra Sarani crossing.
