A foreigner's video preparing the classic Chaunsa Dal from Uttarakhand has become a viral sensation. Chaunsa, also known as "Chainsoo," is a delectable dal made with black gram dal (urad dal), ground into a coarse paste and cooked with spices to create a flavorful dish. The video expertly captures the preparation process, starting with roasting urad dal chilka and creating a spice paste with coriander seeds, cumin seeds, peppercorns, garlic, and ginger.

Incorporating powdered urad dal, turmeric, and wheat flour, he advised adding water as needed, seasoning with salt, and simmering until the dal was cooked. The caption read, “#5 Chaunsa (Chainsoo) - My Top 5 from 2023.”
