Critics’ Choice Short Film Awards (CCSFA) were the most awaited awards of the year. With a transparent process to identify worthy winners, these awards aim to recognize the exceptional creativity of this industry. These awards were held in the month of December 2018 and were presented by The Film Critics Guild, India’s first registered association of film critics and Motion Content Group.
Through these awards, the organizers aim to recognize and appreciate the inventiveness and creativity of short- filmmakers in the country. The event began with a welcome note given by the moderator of the event, Shibani Dandekar. She then called upon the first keynote speaker of the event, Mrs. Anupama Chopra (Film Critic, Director of the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival) who then addressed the crowd. She spoke about Film Critics Guild, first registered association of film critics in this country.
“We currently have critics from 42 publications covering films in 7 different languages. These critics are from print, television, radio and digital. Every week our opinions reach millions of people. Our aim is to further the cause of film criticism, to recognize and encourage the best talent and to help raise standards in Indian Cinema.” - Mrs. Anupama Chopra (Film Critic, Director of the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival)
The next keynote speaker, Mr. Chaitanya Prasad (Additional Director & Director Film Festivals, I&B Ministry) then took over the stage to talk about the limitations, restrictions and challenges a filmmaker faces during the time of the making of the film. Mr. Ashwin Padmanabhan (Head of Trading & Partnerships, Group M) was the third keynote speaker who spoke about the company’s investment in the art of great storytelling and content creation. The last keynote speaker was Mr. Kunal Verma (Creative Head – NVS Media) took over the stage to talk about the journey of his company, NVS Media.
The anchor then took over the stage to begin the award giving ceremony. The categories for the awards include Best Film - Fiction, Best Film - Non-Fiction, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director - Fiction, Best Director - Non-Fiction, Best Writer, Best Editor, Best Cinematographer, and Best Score. Five films in each category have been selected after filtering over hundreds of entries. After the ceremony, Mr. Rajeev Masand (Film Critic, Vice – Chairperson, CNN News 18) then addressed the crowd to give the vote of thanks.
Aiming to recognize and appreciate short films across the country, the CCSFA, was the first-ever collaborative effort of India’s most credible film critics and Motion Content Group.
