Smooth, hair-free skin achieved through waxing is a liberating feeling. It makes your skin smooth, soft and velvety. However, proper post-waxing care is essential to ensure your skin remains healthy, radiant, and free from irritation. Whether you wax at home or visit a salon to get it done, follow these essential tips to pamper your skin after a waxing session.
Immediately after waxing, apply a cool compress to soothe the skin and reduce inflammation. A cold compress helps close the hair follicles, minimising the risk of irritation and redness. Use a clean cloth soaked in cold water or a soothing gel pack.
Avoid hot baths and showers
We understand that it is really cold, but hot showers should be avoided after waxing. Steer clear of hot baths for at least 24 hours post-waxing. Hot water can exacerbate sensitivity, potentially causing redness and discomfort. Use lukewarm water during this period to support skin recovery.
Skip sun exposure
Protect your freshly waxed skin from direct sun exposure and stay cosy at home. UV rays can be harsh on sensitised skin, increasing the risk of sunburn and pigmentation. If sun exposure is unavoidable, use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30.
While exfoliation is crucial to prevent ingrown hairs, wait a day or two after waxing before exfoliating. When you resume exfoliation, choose a gentle scrub or exfoliating glove to avoid irritation. Regular exfoliation helps prevent ingrown hairs and keeps your skin smooth.
Hydrate with fragrance-free lotion
Moisturising is key to maintaining skin suppleness post-waxing. Opt for a fragrance-free, hypoallergenic lotion to hydrate the skin without the risk of irritation. Apply the lotion generously, focusing on areas that underwent waxing.
Say no to heavy workouts
Avoid intense workouts for at least 24 hours post-waxing. Sweating and friction from exercise can irritate the freshly waxed skin. Go for lighter activities during this period to allow your skin to recover without unnecessary stress.
Steer clear of harsh chemicals, fragrances, and deodorants in the waxed area. These products can cause irritation and stinging. Stick to mild, hypoallergenic products during the initial days after waxing
