The role of prasad in the lives of devotees who visit temples in India is religiously connected and is a practice followed without fail. However, these sweet offerings are a health concern after the 300-year-old Tirupati laddu was put under an adulteration test for the possible presence of adulterated ghee and animal fat.
Mathura Vrindavan Peda
The Peda that's distributed among devotes in Mathura, which is the prasad served to Lord Krishna, became part of a food safety inspection. The samples of these Peda's were taken from over 40 shops close to the temple. Meanwhile, another sample of this sweet was sent to Lucknow. The inspection drive is meant to attain surety on the quality of food products offered as prasad to the devotees are of high quality and protect this religious tradition of using sweets, as per media reports.
Ujjain Mahakal Prasad
The Ujjain's Mahakal Temple prasad is also under inspection by the district administration. As concerns over the quality of prasad's are high, the Food Department aims to test the laddu samples for purity. This move is expected to make sure the distributed prasads are of high quality, and religious practices involving food are consistently meeting hygiene requirements, according to media reports.
Khajrana Ganesh Temple laddoo
The samples of laddoo, ghee and flour and other contents were taken at the Khajrana Ganesh Temple, a prominent place of worship. The Food and Drug Department took samples of laddoo for testing, as per media reports. With devotees unsure of the purity of prasads sold within the temple premises, the question yet to be answered is whether food safety violations have been broken.
