Eoin Morgan to decide on England captaincy future after T20 World Cup

England ODI captain Eoin Morgan, who led England to victory at the 50-over World Cup in July, said he will decide his captaincy future after next year's T20 World Cup in Australia.

Morgan has had a history of back injuries but the Southpaw said that he wanted to lead England at the T20 World Cup in October 2020.

Speaking in the press conference ahead of their five-match T20 series against New Zealand, which starts on Friday in Christchurch, Morgan said that he won't be finished after the upcoming T20 WC. He did not want to let anyone down which is why he said he was going to take a call after the WC in Australia. 

When he was asked whether he had considered retiring after their historic World Cup victory in July, Morgan said that if he could prove his fitness again then no. He added that they had a special group of players and he was lucky to lead them. He went on to say that they can do something special down the line with the group they have got.

Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer, Jos Buttler and Jason Roy were all rested for the series against New Zealand and England picked five uncapped players for the series. Only three players who faced New Zealand in the 50-over final at Lord’s Jonny Bairstow, Morgan and Adil Rashid are in the squad.

Worcestershire bowler Pat Brown will make his England debut on Friday, while Surrey all-rounder Sam Curran, who has played 11 Tests and two one-day internationals, will make his T20 international debut. Kent batsman Joe Denly is a major doubt after taking a heavy fall in training.

The aim is to win definitely but also want to provide opportunities to youngsters: Morgan

Morgan said that they will pick the team that they felt was good enough to win the series but he also insisted on trying the new players out and added that there was no use in just selecting them and not giving them an opportunity in the playing XI. The 33-year-old went on to say that there were not many places up for the grabs but the majority of the players were going to be provided with the opportunity and exposure as their aim was not only to build a team for the upcoming World Cup but the one that followed it as well.
