Cricket has been my life: Shahzad

For Shahzad, cricket was not merely an escape from the daily ordeals of life, but it has been his life. He is a fervent supporter of the Indian cricket team, who makes it a point to be in attendance whenever Indore hosts an international or an IPL match. However, while it's easy for the rest of the crowd to get into the stadium, Shahzad has to crawl his way into the stadium.

Speaking to a leading media network, Shahzad said that he put his slippers on his hands and then drag himself across the road and enters the stadium. He claims that on Thursday, he was lifted by the security staff and a couple of policemen into the ground. He claimed that when you get to see the game, everything seems worth the effort.

He has been a part of the Madhya Pradesh wheelchair cricket team since 2017 but said that there was absolutely no support from the state association. So much so, they do not even have a ground to play.

Shahzad, who works as a secretary in a private company for a living, said that they had to clamour to get any attention. Their team was registered in 2017, but receive no funding either from the government or the association. They raised their own funds, went and played matches and then distributed the prize money amongst themselves.

He said that they expect a few wheelchairs to be present in the ground as they loved the game and always wanted to be present for the games, but they cannot enter the ground because there were no wheelchairs, making them feel left out. Shahzad concluded that people helped him but he cannot expect them to do so every day
