After a barrage of lethal fast-bowling spells by the Indian pace trio, along with Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja spinning a web around the visiting batsmen, the South African team faltered at 189 all out to hand over India a comprehensive win in the second Test. With an emphatic victory margin of an innings and 137 runs, Team India took a 2-0 lead in the series and regained the Freedom Trophy.

As the action now shifts to Ranchi for the final Test of the series, let’s rate the Indian players on the basis of their performance in Pune.

Virat Kohli – Rating ‘A’

The Indian skipper slammed his seventh Test double ton to create an Indian record. His innings propelled the home side to a mammoth first innings score.

Ravindra Jadeja – Rating ‘A’

Jadeja belted South Africa with a complete all-round performance. The left-hander scored a quick-fire 91 on Day 2 and then picked up four wickets in both innings.

Mayank Agarwal – Rating ‘A’

In his second century of the series, the Indian opener laid a solid platform for the Indian middle-order by stitching a 138-run second-wicket stand with Pujara.

Rohit Sharma – Rating ‘C’

After a heroic ‘man of the match’ performance in Vizag, the right-handed batsman fell early on Day 1 morning.

Cheteshwar Pujara – Rating ‘B’

Once again Pujara proved his dependability by scoring a stroke-filled 58 after India lost Rohit Sharma in the 10th over of the innings.

Ravichandran Ashwin – Rating ‘B’

Ashwin bagged 4-69 in South Africa’s first innings and then picked up two more wickets on Day 4 in a collective team effort to floor the visitors with an innings win.

Ajinkya Rahane – Rating ‘B’

Coming into bat at 198-3, the Indian vice-captain batted throughout Day 1 and was finally dismissed for a patient 59 on Day 2 afternoon.

Wriddhiman Saha – Rating ‘B’

Wriddhiman Saha did not get a chance to bat due to early declaration. The Indian keeper, however, kept well for a combined 173 overs faced by the South Africans and picked up five catches throughout the match.

Ishant Sharma – Rating ‘C’

After a wicketless first inning, the experienced Indian pacer picked up the prized scalp of opener Aiden Markram in only the second delivery of South African innings.

Mohammed Shami – Rating ‘C’

Shami bagged two wickets in the first innings and backed it up by dismissing Senuran Muthusamy in their second innings. He could only manage to pick three wickets in total.

Umesh Yadav – Rating ‘A’

For a fast bowler, taking six wickets on an Indian pitch after making a comeback is not an easy achievement. Yadav bowled a fiery spell in both innings to complete a match haul of 6-59.
