New Zealand pair hits world record 43 runs in an over on Nov 7, 2019

On November 7, 2018, Central Districts’ fast bowler Willem Ludick had an unwanted record associated with him. Ludick conceded 43 runs, a world record for the most number of runs conceded in an over in List A cricket in a domestic one-day match between Central Districts and Northern Districts in Wellington. He was hit for 6 sixes and a four by batsmen Joe Carter and Brett Hampton in the 46th over of the innings.

On This Day: New Zealand cricketers break world record

The South African-born Ludick bowled two no-balls, both high full tosses as both batsmen Joe Carter and Brett Hampton hit three sixes each. Joe Carter, who came in to bat at No.6, scored an unbeaten 102* off just 77 balls while Brett Hampton scored 95 off 66 to power Northern Districts to 313/7 in their 50 overs. The 21-year-old Ludick, playing only his 4th List-A game, ended with figures of 1/85, having conceded only 42 from his other 9 overs. Central Districts chased well, but eventually fell short, losing the game by 25 runs.

On This Day, New Zealand's Carter and Hampton break Chimgumbura's record

The record for the most runs conceded in recorded List-A cricket was previously held by Alauddin Babu, who conceded 39 runs to former Zimbabwean captain Elton Chigumbura in a Dhaka Premier League game between Abahani Limited and Sheikh Jamal Club in the 2013-14 season. South African batsman JP Duminy hit 37 runs in an over off leg spinner Eddie Leie in a Momentum one-day Cup match between Cape Cobras and Knights in the 2017-18 season.  In One Day Internationals, South African batsman Herschelle Gibbs smashed 6 sixes off Daan van Bunge in their ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 game against the Netherlands. In T20Is, Yuvraj Singh hit 6 sixes off Stuart Broad in ICC T20 World Cup 2007 game against England en-route scoring the fastest T20 half-century of all time.
