South Africa's poor spelled continued as India took only two overs to wrap South Africa’s second innings on Tuesday as they won the third Test by an innings and 202 runs at Ranchi. In the process, they whitewashed South Africa (SA) 3-0. This is not just the 4th biggest innings defeat for SA, but also only the third time since re-admission that the team has lost all matches in a series involving three or more Tests. The last occasion on which SA lost two or more consecutive Tests in a series by an innings margin was against Australia at home in the 1935-36 season.

Rohit Sharma sealed it for India

Rohit Sharma, who was named Man of the Series on Tuesday said he is looking to build on his Test career in his new role. Rohit’s double century in the first innings of the third and final Test proved key to India’s win, as they went on to declare at 497-9 before bowling the opposition twice. This was India's sixth clean sweep at home in a three-Test series and the team didn't put a foot wrong during the three-match series, winning the first Test by 203 runs and the second one by an innings and 137 runs.

He also became only the 5th Indian opener after Vinoo Mankad, Budhi Kunderan, Sunil Gavaskar and Virender Sehwag to score 500-plus runs in a Test series. Sehwag was the last Indian before Rohit to achieve the milestone. Sehwag had hit 544 runs against Pakistan in a three-Test series at home in 2005.
