It looks like competition just got harder for young Rishabh Pant as Kerala's Sanju Samson smashed an unbeaten 212-run knock off just 127 balls against Goa in the Vijay Hazare Trophy on Saturday, justifying his right to make a claim for a place in the national side. Sanju Samson's knock came off just 127 balls and was laced with 21 boundaries and ten sixes. Sanju Samson has been nominated to don the gloves for the national side on many occasions but has been overlooked as selectors continued to persist with Rishabh Pant and Wriddhiman Saha. With Saha taking over the gloves for the tour of South Africa and Sanju Samson playing a spectacular knock, a cloud of uncertainty surrounds Rishabh Pant's future.

Former cricketer Gautham Gambhir took to Twitter to express his excitement in watching Sanju Samson play and said that he was very talented and that an opportunity should be provided to him soon. Indian commentator and analyst Harsha Bhogle congratulated Sanju Samson and said that he was looking forward to seeing more fireworks from him. Sanju Samson's knock of 212 runs is the highest List A score made by an Indian keeper and is also the highest score made in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Many fans took to questions the selectors' choice of playing only one keeper for all three formats and insisted that the team could have three separate keepers for different formats. With Rishabh Pant showing no great progress despite playing in the tour of West Indies, Sanju Samson will be expected to receive a call-up to the national side.
