World Cup 2019: India pulls a 36-run-victory over Australia in a batting-dominated match, denying the team a hat-trick win

Cruising easily to a win on Sunday, the 'Men in Blue' managed to triumph over the Kangaroos as India managed to defend their total of 352 by bowling out Australia for 316 runs in its second World Cup match at England's Oval Stadium.

Cruising easily to a win on Sunday, the 'Men in Blue' managed to triumph over the Kangaroos as India managed to defend their total of 352 by bowling out Australia for 316 runs in its second World Cup match at England's Oval Stadium.

The Indian batting side fired up from their victory against South Africa in the previous match, managed to put up an impressive target of 352 where India's star batsman Shikar Dhawan scored 117 runs, joining an elite list involving Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly for most hundreds for India in the World Cup and ICC tournaments. Skipper Virat Kohli too scored 82 runs. Bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvaneshwar Kumar picked up three wickets each while Yuzvendra Chahal picked up two wickets to bowl out the Australian side.

Australia was denied a hat-trick win after gaining impressive wins over Afghanistan and West Indies by India who finally avenged their loss in the 1999 World Cup against the Aussies at the same venue. At the start of the match, India chose to bat, playing as per its strategy after winning the toss.

In head-to-head World Cup confrontations, Australia is way ahead of India with an 8-3 victory margin in 11 games. Australia had beaten India in the finals of the 2003 edition comprehensively. Meanwhile, India had ended Australia's 12-year long World Cup reign in 2011 to become the eventual champions. But in 2015, the Aussies turned the tables on the 'Men In Blue' before re-establishing their supremacy in World Cricket once again. With this win, second-ranked India has once again turned the tables on cricket supremacy over fifth-ranked Australia.
