Carabao Cup: Anfield witnessed yet another thrilling encounter as the home side overcame Arsenal in a high scoring fixture to book a quarterfinal berth

Liverpool and Arsenal had an absolutely thrilling contest when they met on Wednesday night. The match saw five goals apiece in a game where both sides threw defending out of the window. In the end, penalties were required to separate the sides as 90 minutes couldn't do so.

Carabao Cup: Liverpool vs Arsenal match report

Despite getting the opening goal, Liverpool found themselves 3-1 behind before the 40th minute. But the home side did not back down and eventually found themselves 4-4 by the 62nd minute. It was pretty evident that defenders from both the sides were having a horror show while attackers were thriving. Joseph Willock put Arsenal ahead once again in the 70th minute to make the score 5-4 to the visitors. But just as it looked Arsenal have managed to stun Anfield, Divock Origi; the man for big occasions once again popped up and drew Liverpool level with a fine acrobatic strike. The game ended at 5-5. Onto penalties now.

The penalties, however, allowed the youngsters to show their mental fortitude as Daniel Ceballos saw his penalty saved by Caoimhin Kelleher and 18-year-old Curtis Jones converted his effort to send Anfield into ecstasy. And just like that Liverpool were heading to the quarterfinals of the Carabao Cup.
