Kei Nishikori to skip rest of the season due to an elbow injury

World No. 8 Kei Nishikori has decided to end his season early due to right arm and elbow injury. The Japanese stated that the injury had been trouble for him.

World No. 8 Kei Nishikori has reportedly decided to end his season early due to right arm and elbow injury. Last month, the Japanese star stated that the injury had been bothering him since the French Open. Hence, he missed the ATP Tour’s Asian Swing, including the Rakuten Japan Open. Nishikori had won the title twice before.

Kei Nishikori: Not selected for team Japan

On Twitter, Nishikori wrote that he is sad and he will miss his place in Japan’s Davis Cup team. Also, he added that he would be available next year, for sure. Talking to the press, Japan Tennis Association revealed that Nishikori had been removed from the national team for the Davis Cup.

The 29-year-old has not played in the tournament since the U.S. Open in August. Also, he sat out the remainder of 2017 season with a broken right wrist. The Japanese tennis player has not played in any of the tournaments for Japan since the Davis Cup World Group playoff match in September 2016. But he was supposed to join this year in order to meet qualifications for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
