ICC Champions Trophy 2025: Pakistan have been going through tough times when it comes to their cricket. The Men in Green could not manage to win a single match during the marquee ICC event. Following the debacle, the team faced criticism. Babar Azam and Mohammed Rizwan also faced the heat and now they finally have someone who has come in on their defense.
Hailing Babar and Rizwan as ‘great’ cricketers, former Pakistan great Saeed Ajmal audaciously compared them to the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. Pointing that even Tendulkar could not hit a century in every game, Ajmal bizarrely said it is unfair to expect the Pakistan batters to score in every game.
“As a cricketer, one must realise that bad patches are part of a player’s career. You can’t play cricket the same way all your life. Even if you were Sachin Tendulkar, you couldn’t score 100 runs in every match,” Ajmal said to Sportstar.
“Aapke paas ek hi toh star hai (You have only one star). If you degrade him also, then how will your cricket run? These are the big issues. Our former cricketers should keep their mouths shut,” Ajmal added.
“Look, the way you’ve removed them is wrong. It’s not like they are the only ones who haven’t scored while others have. That’s not the case. Ideally, the selectors should sit down with Babar and discuss rest so that he can come back stronger,” Ajmal stated.
Pakistan star Babar has opted not to take part in the National T20 Championship. He was dropped from the T20I squad for the upcoming New Zealand series, and has hence decided to give a preference to the Pakistan Super League. Babar hasn't been involved in a domestic T20 match since 2020 and will focus more on PSL in order to get back to the Pakistan T20 setup.
The national side is currently in New Zealand for a series and they would be looking to win games and bring back the smiles on the faces of fans.
