'Not Everything Comes To An End In A Perfect Way': Bangladesh Veteran Mahmudullah Bids Farewell To International Cricket

Veteran cricketer Mahmudullah has announced retirement from all the formats after Bangladesh Cricket's winless run in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Bangladesh cricketer Mahmudullah has declared his retirement from all forms of cricket. The veteran cricketer made the announcement on the social media platform Facebook. Mahmudullah had already announced his retirement from T20I and Test cricket in 2024 and 2021, respectively. Following the Bangla Tigers' winless run in the Champions Trophy 2025, he has announced his retirement from international cricket.

Veteran Mahmudullah Announces Retirement From International Cricket

Mahmudullah, who made his debut in the year 2007 in ODI cricket and eventually became a key part of the team in the middle-order position. He called time on his illustrious career as the fourth-highest ODI run-getter with 5689 runs, which includes four centuries. All of his tons have happened in the ICC tournaments, when he scored consecutive tons in the 2015 World Cup, then in the 2017 Champions Trophy and the fourth one happened at the ODI World Cup 2023 in India.  

"All praises only for the Almighty Allah. I have decided to retire from international cricket. I would like to thank all of my teammates,coaches & specially my fans who has always supported me. A big thank you to my parents, my in laws specially my father in law & most importantly my brother Emdad Ullah who has been there for me constantly since my childhood as my coach & mentor.

"And finally thanks to my wife & kids who have been my support system through thick & thin. I know Raeid will miss me in red & green jersey. Not everything comes to an end in a perfect way but you say yes & move forward… Best wishes to my team & Bangladesh cricket," Mahmudullah wrote in a post on Facebook.

Throughout his 17-year career, Mahmudullah has been a part of Bangladesh Cricket in 239 ODIs, 50 Tests and 141 T20Is.

Is Bangladesh Cricket Going Through A Tough Time?

Mahmudullah's retirement came in the aftermath of Bangladesh's horror run in the ICC Champions Trophy. But hints were subtly dropped when the veteran decided to opt out of the BCB's list of centrally contracted players. Mushfiqur Rahim, Bangladesh's second-highest ODI run-scorer, has also called time in his ODI career in early March.

With several veteran Bangladesh cricketers calling time on their careers, it is yet to be seen whether the BCB selectors elevate new talent for future competitions.
