IPL 2025: Virat Kohli is arguably the best batter of the generation, but time and again he has been accused of being a stat-padder. But is that really the case? After Shreyas Iyer came up with the heroics against Gujarat on Tuesday, former India cricketer Ravi Shastri hailed the PBKS captain.
But while praising him for being selfless, it seemed Shastri took a sly dig at Kohli. Shastri did not take names, but he indirectly seemed to be speaking about Kohli. This happened after Shashank Singh revealed how Iyer had asked him to go for the win and not worry about PBKS captain's milestone. Hailing, Shreyas for his attitude, Shastri said: “That’s the right thing to say in a team game.”
It was stunning to see as Shashank spoke about Iyer's message, clips of Kohli refusing to come back for a double just to keep strike in order to complete his century against KKR in an IPL game went viral. At that moment, it semed clear that Shastri was talking about Kohli.
"Getting 97 not out in the opening game of the season for us is the icing on the cake. I got a four the first ball I faced and it got me going. That flick six off Rabada as well. 44 runs he (Shashank) scored off 16-17 balls was pretty crucial for the team. We set a benchmark that we had to go for it," POTM Iyer said at the post-match presentation.
Punjab will now play Lucknow on April 1 and they would like to keep up the winning momentum. On the other hand, Lucknow would like to score their first win of the season.
