Dinesh Mongia: Career, Personal Life and things you must know

Indian Cricket all-rounder Dinesh Mongia earlier announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. Mongia replaced VVS Laxman which finished runners up in the 2003 ICC Cricket World Cup. Mongia was last seen playing for Punjab in 2007. He later joined the Indian Cricket League and was banned by the BCCI.

Dinesh Mongia made his under-19 debut in 1995 for Punjab and then made his national team debut against Australia in 2001. However, his best came when he smashed an unbeaten 159 runs in the series decider against Zimbabwe in 2002. At the end of his career, he played 57 ODIs but no Tests. Mongia also played 121 first-class matches where he smashed 21 centuries.  

After getting banned by the BCCI for association with the ICL, Mongia and most of the players got amnesty. However, he was out of the official cricket circuit. According to many sources, the cricketer is currently taking coaching assignments for various teams. Last year, Mongia was made a selector by the Punjab Cricket Association.

In domestic cricket, Dinesh Mongia has a good record. He has scored 8,100 runs with an average of around 50. His highest domestic cricket score was an unbeaten 308. Apart from domestic and the national team, Mongia has also played for many overseas teams. In 2004, he signed for Lancashire after Stuart Law got injured and in 2005, he signed a full-time contract with the Leicestershire. According to statistics, Mongia has also played for Chandigarh Lions in the Indian Cricket League. On the personal front, Dinesh Mongia married Aarti Chandak in 2003 at a resort in Chandigarh. According to the reports, the pair was supposed to get married a year before, but the ceremony got postponed as Mongia was selected to play the tri-series tournament.
