Former Australian spinner Stuart MacGill has been found guilty of taking part in the supply of cocaine on March 13. A jury in the New South Wales District Court said that even MacGill's involvement was limited, but the dealer took in two other alleged supplies as well. The former cricketer will return to court in May to be sentenced, according to Sky Sports.
Previously, in 2021, the 54-year-old cricketer came into the limelight after he was allegedly kidnapped, assaulted, and threatened before being released.
Stuart MacGill made his international debut in the Test format in 1998 against South Africa. Following that, he had appeared in 44 long-format matches and 85 innings, picking up 208 wickets at an economy rate of 3.22. The former cricketer played his last Test match in 2008 against West Indies. He was also known for his batting skills; MacGill scored 3154 runs at a strike rate of 57.65 in Tests.
In the 2003-2004 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the former spin bowler was the highest wicket-taker for Australia with 14 scalps against India.
In ODIs, Stuart MacGill made his debut in 2000 against Pakistan. He played very few appearances in the 50-over matches, playing in just three matches where he bagged six wickets at an economy rate of 3.50.
The former international cricketer had stunning figures in domestic cricket as well. He played 184 first-class matches, and took 774 wickets at an economy rate of 3.41.
Stuart MacGill's international career was overshadowed by Shane Warne, who was on the rise back then. Warne was famous for his spells in Test cricket. In the long format, Warne made his debut in 1992 against India and went on to play 145 Test matches, picking up 708 wickets at an economy rate of 2.65.
In ODIs, Warne played 194 matches after making his debut in 1993 against New Zealand. In the 50-over format, the spin legend bagged 293 wickets at an economy rate of 4.25.
